Glenn: Without a doubt my biggest thrill was getting my first book published--Sports Shorts, 2000 of the Funniest One Liner in Sports. The odds against publishing a book are very high. It was great to beat the odds.
Second to that was flying out to California and being interviewed on
the Roy
Firestone show. Being seen on the most popular interview show in sports
was
very flattering.
Q.2
SP: Who is the most famous person you have met in person?
Glenn: Without a doubt the most famous person I have met is my childhood
idol--Sandy Koufax. I met him not in the context of a writer but at a
fan
last year at spring training. He could not have been more personable,
not
only to me but to my entire family.
Q.3
SP: What team/era/sport autographs do you collect?
Glenn: I don't have a specific era or sport, though I guess I put a little
more
emphasis on baseball. More than anything, I just enjoy the thrill of
getting
autographs in the mail
Q.4
SP: What is your favorite autograph in your collection?
Glenn: Without a doubt the personalized autograph Sandy Koufax gave to my son. Though like all collectors, I have had a lot of thrills and that's why I keep doing it.
Second is a plaque I got autographed by Mark Messier. His leadership on
and
off the ice is inspirational to his teammates and the fans.
Q.5
SP: If you could meet one sports celebrity in person and you had no limit
on who to meet, who would you want to meet?
Glenn: I think I would most like to meet Joe Torre. As a person who has
collected
thousands of quotes over the years, my least favorite one is Leo
Durocher's---"Nice guys finish last". I always thought that this was a
false
premise. No one proves that adage wrong more than Joe Torre. Through
his
decency, candidness and baseball knowledge, he has become the most
respected
manager in baseball. I would love to meet him.
Q.6
SP: Would you have any advice for a budding writer?
0 Glenn: I have two pieces of advice for a writer and they've been heard before but they are true. First is to keep writing. The best way to get any book published is to get lots of articles published even if it a publication or newspaper with a small subscription base. Before my first book was published, I had over fifty clips from different magazines and newspapers. It helps to establish your credibility as a writer.
The second piece of advice is to never be phased by rejection. There
has not
been any writer in history who has not been rejected. I have had tons
of
rejection slips before finally gettitng published. Don't be phased by
rejection and just keep persevering.
Q.7
SP: Are you planning to publish any more books?
Glenn: My latest book--Body Slams, the funniest quotes about pro wrestling,
just
came out and is selling very well nationwide. I am very excited about
this
book. There are some other projects in the works but nothing official.
I urge
anyone who is looking for a present for a sports fans or just loves
sports
and loves to laugh to log on to my webpage at glennliebman.com. I can't
sell
my books but I provide links to sites that do sell my books. Also, they
are
available at all major book stores nationwide.
